The worship commons at CBC focuses the mind and spirit on the living God in a setting both traditional and contemporary. The service, while visibly informal, draws on ancient as well as contemporary sources. Laity take part both in worship leadership as well as choir and ushering. Pastors as well as guest speakers, often ordained members of the congregation, bring the message. The services are planned around themes of several weeks' duration, often inspired by the church calendar. Artwork related to the theme, music of many genres, drama and sometimes dance, enhance the worship experience.
The board of worship, in conjunction with the pastors and the coordinator of music ministries, work together to plan the services and to set policy regarding music leadership, varieties of music, concerns and celebrations, ushers, worship planning, sound system, communion, children's conversation, ecumenical cooperation, as well as Center for Spirituality and Justice.
