Heading Toward The Uninhabitable Earth: What We Can Do
‘The Uninhabitable Earth’, written by David Wallace-Wells and published this year, portends the widespread biosystem deterioration, famine, and economic collapse resulting from unchecked climate change.  If you want to learn more about climate change, and ways it can be and are being addressed, come to The Ecology Faith in Action Team’s Learning Community Series, held on Sundays 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM from January 5 to February 23, 2020.   Dan Burnham and Peter Graham will start us off on imbalances in the carbon cycle caused by the dumping of fossil fuel CO2 and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and ocean.  Lynn Wolcott will summarize the Uninhabitable Earth. The series will then present what CBC members and local communities are doing to conserve energy and switch to renewable energy sources; Jane Dugdale and Rick Webb will discuss the benefits of rehabilitating agricultural and land management practices including the reintroduction of native plant species, and Chuck Marshall will present examples of the economic and political challenges facing climate change mitigation. In addition, Michael Masso will discuss his experience as an engineer in Africa and the environmental deterioration and social injustice there resulting from climate change. His presentation will allow us further insight into Pini Kidulah’s efforts in West Pokot County, Kenya.
