I’m New

Central Baptist Church is a Welcoming and Affirming church in the American Baptist tradition. You are welcome here, and we look forward to getting to know you!

What do you mean by “Baptist”?

At Central Baptist Church, we ground our progressive values in the Baptist commitment to religious liberty. Click here to learn more.

When and where are the services?

CBC’s worship services are at 10 AM on Sunday mornings, held in the worship commons—what other churches call the sanctuary—on the upper floor of the building. The church is located at 106 W. Lancaster Ave., Wayne, PA 19087. You can enter through the front door (upper floor) on W. Lancaster Ave. or the back door (lower floor) at 111 W. Wayne Ave.

Parking:  There is a church parking lot with limited parking off of West Wayne Ave.  There is kiosk parking along West Wayne Ave., and in the municipal parking lot between West Wayne Ave. and Runnymede Ave. Parking is free on Sundays.

What should I expect?

A typical service at CBC is 60 to 75 minutes. Our services are structured but do not follow a set liturgy; on your way in, you’ll receive a paper bulletin outlining the order of worship. Click here to learn more about worship services at CBC.

There is no dress code—we invite everyone to come as they are when they join us for worship, and you’ll see people in jeans and T-shirts, dressed in their Sunday best, and everything in between.

Where will my kids go?

Valuing the faith development of children, we offer Learning Community (Sunday School) each Sunday during worship time. Our teachers are experienced, creative, and great with kids. We take safety seriously, and all of our employees and volunteers have obtained background clearances.

What are CBC’s values?

Believing in the radical inclusiveness of God, we come together from all walks of life as a faith community of various ages, ethnicities, religious backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities. Following the model of Jesus, we are a congregation committed to supporting each one’s search for a personal relationship with God, deepening our communal relationship with each other, and partnering with others to work toward a more compassionate, just, equitable, peaceful, and sustainable world.

CBC is a Welcoming and Affirming congregation in the Philadelphia Baptist Association region of American Baptist Churches USA, and LGBTQ+ persons are part of all aspects of church life and leadership, including pastoral ministry. CBC is also affiliated with the Alliance of Baptists, the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America / Bautistas por la Paz, and the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists.

Accessibility

Entering through the front door requires going up four steps outside, then five steps inside. The back door leads to the lower floor, with stairs to get to the upper floor; there is an elevette, but it requires assistance from someone who knows how to use it. Contact the church office if you have questions about building access.

Restrooms

Men’s and women’s restrooms are on the lower floor (stairs required). You are welcome to use the restroom that best aligns with your gender identity. The upper floor has a single-stall all-gender restroom.
